Fractures & tears
Fractures & déchirures
Social fractures & Urban tears; Material fractures & human tears
Composed between 2017 and 2020, Fractures & Tears is a photographic project between reportage and abstraction, creation and testimony. Taken in the same metropolitan environment, it brings tension and confronts two seemingly different substrates, two universes of the same world.
On the one hand, there is the reportage or documentary photograph of an “underground” population, representative of a society at a time. Frozen in a black and white snapshot, scenes of life in the metro are captured, caught, captured in their spontaneity.
On the other hand, there is the composition photography, revealing landscapes or tabloids in the material, the color, the erosion, the “natural” arrangement of the posters and the derelict walls. A research which wants to sublimate a deliquescent decoration, to confront wear and tear, in an approach close to the pictorial.
Thanks to the digital overprinting process, there is the meeting of these two materials, the juxtaposition of the ebb and flow of a city in motion in the same landscape it crosses. The tensioning of two universes which always intersect and never mix, yet stem from the same unconsciousness of an era, structured by the same paradigm, stretched by the reversal of the gaze towards oneself and no longer open to the other of a consumer society.
